A Sewing Tip About Thread

"May your bobbin always be full!" Author Unknown

I was sewing together some aprons.  As you can see, I have quite a few to do.  I try to work in batches depending on the thread color when wouldn't you know it, I ran out of the color thread I needed. As I was almost done with the one I was sewing I just did not want to run out to the store to buy more thread.  I hunted around looking for just one more spool of the right color when I spied my drawer of serger thread. Now serger thread comes on a cone not a spool so how was I going to get it to work on a regular sewing machine?

Looking at my sewing machine with it's empty spool I realized I could fit the cone right onto the spool.  Of course, the one that was on there did not fit into the cone. Now, I have a habit of saving empty thread spools. I keep them in a bear shaped jar leftover from the animal cracker days. They come in handy for a variety of things from saving bits of ribbons or threads to sundry crafty projects.

I rummaged through my jar of spools and found one that fit perfectly.  Serger thread is a bit thinner than regular sewing thread  but it is fine for garment construction, something I learned from watching a TV sewing show but I don't remember which one.  It is not usually used because it is not on spools, but now I have found a way to use it!

I hope this tip will come in handy.
Have a fun day!
