Yesterday was Ground Hog Day.
Now, Ground Hog Day is not a real holiday, but it is one of my favorite days. Why? Well there are a couple of reasons. One, it is the mid-point of winter. No matter what the ground hog does with regards to his shadow, you know that whether early or late Spring is on its' way.
The second reason is that it marks the time for my Ground Hog Day Get Away. This tradition started many years ago when my dear friend Fran suggested a girls weekend. Fran, her friend Janet who I had gotten to know over the years and I got a hotel room in New York City. We spent two fun filled days having all kinds of adventures. We kept this tradition up for many years until sadly Fran passed away.
Janet and I decided to keep this tradition going. We do not really live close so while we always have good intentions we have not made it every year. This year we made it! Not only that, for the first time were joined by Fran's daughter Amy who came down from Boston. It was a delightful! We reminisced about Fran, ate good food, shopped, saw a movie and just enjoyed each other's company.
That is why I look forward to Ground Hog Day every year. It represents the eternal hope of spring and the loving bond of friendship.
Have a fun day.
