Groundhog Day (Canadian French: Jour de la Marmotte; Pennsylvania German: Grundsaudaag, Murmeltiertag) is a traditional holiday celebrated on February 2. According to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its nest high in the tree on this day, then the spring season will come early; if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its nest, and winter weather will persist for six more weeks. This year according to CNN "The famed groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw no shadow when he emerged from his home..." meaning we would have an early spring". I certainly would have no objection to that!
A walk in my garden has me thinking that Phil could be right this year as my daffodils are already coming up.
