On Trick or Treating

Trick-or-Treating
Trick-or-treating is a Halloween custom for children in many countries. Children in costumes travel from house to house asking for treats such as candy (or, in some cultures, money) with the phrase "Trick or treat". Wikipedia

When I was a kid, I loved Halloween.  There were two main reasons for this: one, you could dress up to be anything you wanted and, two, you got lots of candy.

The thing is back then Halloween was one day. There were no Rag-a-Muffin parades the week before, no organized community costume contests or extravagant Halloween shows.  It was one day of running around the neighborhood in a  costume, usually home made,  and collecting as much candy as possible.  I remember having to go home to empty out my bag so I could get more.

Now a days, the Halloween hype starts months before.  My supermarket had a Halloween candy display up in July!  There is so much Halloween stuff going on beforehand that by the time the day arrives, it's almost anti-climactic.

Many things, holidays included, seemed simpler when I was a kid.  The past is often viewed through rose colored glasses and the thing is the memories I have of those holidays are the memories of a child.  As a child, you don't have the worries or responsibilities of an adult. Who knows what our parents thought of the whole thing.  Mine never told me.

Even so, kids still love Halloween and so do I. So have a safe and HAPPY HALLOWEEN. I hope you get lots of treats!

Have a fun day!
